Armorial Gold Heraldry

If find you are not getting thumbnail images for vector image files, that is unfortunately normal. This page shows some options for Shareware or Freeware programs that may add thumbnails on Windows or Mac systems.

CorelDraw for Windows includes a File Explorer extension that adds thumbnails for CDR files. We use CorelDraw and SageThumbs.

If none of these work for you, use the Search and Thumbnail Browser in the Members' Area. These offer the additional benefit of access to additional file formats and updated or newly added files.

Sagethumbs, an open source add-on for Windows that adds to Window File Explorer the ability to view thumbnails for a large number of file formats.


This is a great little software program that, at this writing, is free. It allows you to view images as thumbnails and makes it easier to find the images you need.  When you open the software, use File/Thumbnails-this will show your directories. You can expand or reduce the display window by using your mouse to drag the outer edges. Irfanview displays WMF and CDR files. Click on the logo for more information


This is freeware for non commercial use. Imports some 400 file formats including wmf, and exports about 50 formats. It is also a batch converter. At this writing they also have a full cross platform version, (Mac, Windows, Linux) that you can try in beta form. Click on the Logo for more information.



ST Thumbnails Explorer is shareware (Try Before You Buy) application. You can download full-function trial version and try it 30 days absolutely free. Views WMF, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, CorelDRAW, PhotoPaint, Corel Designer, WordPerfect, MS Office, MS Visio, Xara, Freehand, FlexiSIGN, and more. Click on Logo for information.



As of Windows Vista and Window 7, the Microsoft Windows Explorer no longer displays thumbnails image previews of EMF (Enhanced Metafile) and WMF (Windows Metafile) vector graphic images. This Windows Explorer plug-in restores this capability. At this writing this thumbnail viewer is free.




CDR Viewer is free for use software tool. This viewer can be used to open/display CorelDRAW image files and gives you and options to convert .cdr file types to other image file formats as .jpg, .gif, .png, .tiff and .bmp. CDR stands for CorelDRAW and this extension is proprietary format used by Corel software. CDR format is not recognized by most image programs and to save to other image formats it needs to be opened in CorelDRAW and then exported in other format.


With CDR Viewer there is no need to have installed CorelDRAW to display or convert CDR file formats.


Lemke Graphic Converter. Certainly the most popular of the cross platform viewers for the Mac....full screen images display and powerful converter features. This is shareware and there is a small fee.  Click on the logo for more information


The program is wmf converter and viewer on Mac. On Windows, many graphics and forms are stored and exchanged as Windows Metafiles (WMF*) and Enhanced Metafiles (EMF*). On Mac, you can not preview them unless you open them in a Microsoft applications such as Word or PowerPoint or use WMF Viewer application. So, if you use WMF images on Apple Macintosh computer - this is the right choice for you. WMF Viewer gives you ability to use Windows Metafiles on Apple Macintosh computer.
